Gum sores

Aphthae in the oral cavity in general and sores on the gums in particular are a very common phenomenon. If a sore appears on the gums, you can identify whether it is an aphthae by a few simple signs – an aphthae is, for the most part, a white sore on the gums that is round in shape, and its size can reach up to a centimeter. The aphthae are burning and annoying, and often cause pain when eating and sometimes even speaking. The aphthae can appear as a sore on the upper or lower gums.

The causes of aphthae in the gums are varied, and it is not always possible to point to a specific cause – many studies indicate that it is a genetic predisposition, which may erupt throughout life due to poor nutrition, a disease that weakens the immune system, mental stress, and other factors.

In most cases, the sore will heal on its own within two weeks. If it is causing a lot of pain that makes it difficult to function on a daily basis, various numbing creams can be applied to relieve the burning sensation. If the aphthae do not heal after two weeks, you should seek medical attention to determine whether the aphthae are a symptom of a more serious illness.

Mouth ulcers in pregnant women and children

Canker sores usually appear in people in their 20s and older. However, there are also quite a few cases of canker sores in children, and even in infants. It is not always easy for a parent to recognize that it is a canker sore, especially if the child is very young. Canker sores cannot be completely cured; however, the child’s suffering can be alleviated with appropriate mouthwashes and ointments aimed at relieving the pain.

Canker sores in the mouth during pregnancy are also very common, due to hormonal imbalances and emotional stress during pregnancy, which can cause them to appear. In this case too, various preparations can be used to numb and relieve the pain, while at the same time maintaining strict oral hygiene.

Treatment of mouth sores

Mouth ulcers may occur quite often throughout life, and in some cases, they can be very bothersome and interfere with daily functioning. Most of the time, ulcers go away on their own within no more than 14 days. Although there is no cure for mouth ulcers that can completely cure ulcers so that they will not return throughout life, it is possible to find mouth ulcers treatment that may significantly alleviate the suffering and help return to full function (speaking, eating).

In cases of extreme pain caused by aphthae, an ointment for aphthae can be applied to the mouth. Again, we note that the purpose of the ointment is not to cure the aphthae or prevent them from returning, but to soothe and provide local relief. Natural ointments can be found, containing various types of medicinal herbs that may provide pain relief.

In more extreme cases, you can choose a prescription-only treatment for mouth ulcers – there are various ointments containing steroid-based anesthetics, which have a dual action – local anesthesia, while simultaneously accelerating the healing process of the wound. Additional treatments for severe cases include therapeutic mouth rinses, local laser treatment aimed at destroying the bacteria, and more.

In the long term, after the aphthae have disappeared, it is recommended to take preventive measures. To prevent aphthae from attacking again, it is recommended to maintain proper oral hygiene, as well as maintain an appropriate diet – avoid consuming acidic foods (such as pickles, lemons and citrus fruits), and increase your intake of vitamins and minerals.

Natural treatment for mouth ulcers – how?

The problem of aphthae cannot be completely solved, and there is no guarantee that aphthae will not reoccur at some point in life. However, when an aphthae appears and causes pain and burning when speaking and eating, there are quite a few things that can be done to relieve the pain and speed up the healing process of the wound. Some of these remedies are offered by conventional medicine, and some even require a doctor’s prescription.

However, those who wish can also find a natural cure for aphthae – there are quite a few traditional gum treatments, which may be just as effective, and in some cases even more so, than the usual treatments – and in most cases healthier than them.

Goat’s milk is a natural remedy for aphthae in the gums. Goat’s milk treatment is very effective, especially when it comes directly from the goat’s udder to the mouth. However, it is very important to be careful not to drink unpasteurized goat’s milk that has been outside – such milk may cause various infections, especially in infants, children and people with immune system problems. To be on the safe side, it is recommended to gargle the milk without swallowing it.

Other home remedies that may be effective for treating canker sores include applying baking soda, and chewing green tea leaves that have been steeped in boiling water. In addition, there are a number of homeopathic remedies that may be effective for relieving canker sores.
